Living with the seasons: what nature can teach us about ourselves

Living with the seasons: there are days when we naturally feel more introverted. Days when we want less social interaction, more silence, and more care for ourselves. Days when we feel the need to slow down and reconnect with a deeper sense of inner peace.

In truth, this is simply the body, mind, and spirit finding a way to preserve energy, reconnect, and recharge.

All we need to do is observe nature and its endless wisdom. The seasons exist in perfect balance. Everything happens in its own time, in harmony. That is living with the seasons.

At the end of winter and the beginning of spring, temperatures slowly begin to rise. Seeds start to “wake up” and, still hidden in the darkness of the earth, they quietly begin their work. They grow roots, strengthen themselves, and gather nourishment before they bloom.

Then summer arrives, and life expands outward. Flowers rise above the surface, spreading beauty and fragrance. Food grows rich with nutrients. Leaves become vibrant, green, and full of life.

Then autumn comes. After spending so much energy outwardly, nature begins to turn inward again. The focus shifts from expansion to restoration.

And when winter finally arrives, bringing cold days and longer nights, the invitation becomes even clearer: look within.

None of this is different from what happens within our own body, mind, and spirit. Just like nature, we are also invited to nourish, grow, bloom, release, and turn inward.

The energy we feel during spring and summer is different from the energy we experience during autumn and winter. And even though every season still carries traces of the others, each phase has its own invitation. The seasons speak for themselves.

So how can we embrace each season more fully?

Listen to your body. Connect with the divine source. Connect with your heart and ask yourself what you truly need in this moment, in this season of your life.

Observe nature. It is a quiet teacher. It does not shout, force, or rush. It simply shows. Supports. Holds. Teaches through its very existence.

For each season of the year, find a ritual that awakens your own “inner season.” Meditation, movement, books, warm drinks, candles, incense, salt baths… anything that helps you reconnect with nature, your inner self, and divine energy.

Anything that brings you back to yourself.

When we learn to understand what each phase is asking from us, life becomes lighter. Observing how nature responds to each moment teaches us how to move through life with more awareness, presence, and abundance.

Here are a few simple ideas to help you reconnect with yourself and with nature throughout the year.

Spring — Plant.

Simple as that.

Choose a plant that represents you in this moment and take care of it. Water it, nourish it, and watch it grow into exactly what it was meant to become.

As you observe this process, ask yourself: in which area of my life do I also need to plant a seed?

Maybe it is your health. A new project. A relationship. An old dream. Or maybe it is simply the courage to begin.

What are the first small steps that could bring you closer to the life you want to create?

Spring is an invitation to renewal.

Summer — Radiate.

Plants grow, bloom, and simply allow themselves to be seen. They do not ask permission to exist.

Be like that too.

During summer, allow yourself to do something you truly love. Think about something that made you deeply happy as a child. Perhaps there is still space for it in your life today.

When was the last time you did something that genuinely excited you? Something that made you feel alive and connected to yourself?

Do you love dancing? Dance.
Do you love singing? Sing.
Do you love creating? Create.

Move. Allow yourself to be seen.

Autumn — Release.

Nature does not cling to its leaves.

During autumn, whatever has completed its cycle naturally begins to fall away.

And you? What do you need to release?

Observe what feels heavy, draining, or no longer aligned. Very often, the things we cling to the most are exactly the things we most need to let go of.

Not everything is meant to be carried forever.

Ask yourself: does this still make sense for me? Is this still helping me grow?

Sometimes, creating space is the first step toward allowing something new to bloom.

Winter — Turn inward.

The trees no longer carry their leaves. There is a feeling of pause. Of endings.

But winter does not represent only an end. It also represents preparation.

It is a season to seek comfort, rest, and warmth. A season to nourish what softens and strengthens the soul. A season to restore energy before a new beginning arrives.

It is often during the quietest moments that new ideas are born. That we gain clarity about what worked, what did not, and what we wish to carry into the next cycle.

Winter reminds us that rest is also part of growth.
